South Tampa System Upgrades

Peoples Gas is upgrading the natural gas system serving several South Tampa neighborhoods. These improvements began in March 2025 and are expected to continue through 2026. The project will enhance system reliability and increase capacity to support the growing energy needs of the community. 

Work is being completed within designated construction zones throughout the areas shown on the map below. 

Safety is our highest priority. We are coordinating closely with local agencies to help minimize disruptions during construction. You may notice clearly marked work zones, construction equipment, temporary barricades, and occasional traffic or access inconveniences as work progresses through your neighborhood.

If Construction Has Not Started in Your Zone Yet 

As we prepare to begin work in your neighborhood, you can expect advance notifications with details about upcoming activities and anticipated schedules. 

What We're Doing 

The South Tampa system upgrades include: 

• Installing new flow valves and service regulators at homes and businesses with natural gas service. 

• Replacing and upgrading sections of natural gas infrastructure to improve reliability and capacity. 

• Performing pressure tests on new and upgraded pipelines to ensure they meet our stringent safety and reliability standards. 

• Carefully placing newly upgraded facilities into service following successful testing. 

What to Expect 

• Temporary construction activities in your neighborhood. 

• Clearly marked work zones and barricades. 

• Minor traffic delays or temporary access restrictions near active construction areas. 

• Possible interruptions to natural gas service as upgrades are completed and new equipment is installed. 

• If your service is impacted, we will provide advance notice whenever possible and communicate any actions required on your part. 

Appliance Relights 

If a service interruption is necessary, Peoples Gas technicians will relight affected natural gas appliances after work is completed. 

An adult age 18 or older must be present to allow technicians to access and complete the relight process. If we are unable to reach you, we will leave a door hanger with instructions to call our Customer Service Center at 877-832-6747 to schedule an appointment. 

If you have a natural gas generator installed at your home or business, please let us know.

If Construction Is Complete in Your Zone 

If construction activities in your zone have concluded, the major upgrade work in your area is complete and there is nothing more for you to do. Upgrades vary depending on the system design and demands. Throughout your neighborhood, our work has included:  

• Installation of new flow valves and service regulators where applicable. 

• Upgrades to natural gas distribution infrastructure. 

• Comprehensive pressure testing and safety verification of newly installed facilities. 

• Safe introduction of natural gas into the upgraded system. 

• Relighting affected gas appliances following service restoration. 

Property Restoration 

We are committed to restoring areas affected by construction. This includes repairing or restoring disturbed: 

• Sidewalks 

• Driveways 

• Landscaping 

• Other impacted property features 

Restoration activities may occur separately from utility installation work and, in some cases, may continue after pipeline construction has been completed.
