Natural gas is a market-based commodity and its pricing can shift significantly due to factors such as weather and changes in supply and demand. In January 2026, the demand for natural gas increased during Winter Storm Fern causing a steep rise in the cost of natural gas.

Peoples Gas works diligently to insulate our customers from volatile market conditions like this. We have a team dedicated to constantly monitoring natural gas prices and pipeline use so we can buy gas wisely to serve customer needs and better manage costs. Through these proactive measures, we were able to limit the impact to customer bills.

Impact to bills

For most Peoples Gas residential customers and some commercial customers, the cost of natural gas and associated delivery charges are reflected in the PGA line item on monthly bills. The PGA, or Purchased Gas Adjustment, is the cost of natural gas purchased and delivered to Florida. This charge is passed through from gas and transportation suppliers to consumers and can fluctuate monthly within an approved range. Peoples Gas does not mark up or profit from this charge.

The market impacts from January 2026 are reflected in the PGA costs starting in February 2026. Peoples Gas remains committed to minimizing the impact of market fluctuations on your bill.

Large-use commercial and industrial customers typically purchase natural gas through a third-party supplier, so cost impacts may vary for those customers.
