Two Florida business leaders appointed to Tampa Electric Co. board

Two Florida business and community leaders have been appointed to join the Tampa Electric Co. board of directors. This board oversees both the company’s electric utility, Tampa Electric, and its natural gas utility, TECO Peoples Gas.

Joining the board, effective Feb. 7, will be:

Ana-Marie Codina Barlick, chief executive officer of Codina Partners, an investment and development firm in Coral Gables. She helped transform Downtown Doral into a landmark mixed-use development that serves as the new urban center for the city of Doral. She previously served as president and chairman of the Miami City Ballet’s board of trustees. Codina Barlick was the founder of the Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School and serves as its president. She also serves on the Florida Council of 100, a non-profit group of community leaders who work closely with state leaders on economic development issues.

Rasesh “Sesh” Thakkar, senior managing director at Tavistock Group, an international private investment organization in Windermere, near Orlando, with interests in real estate, life sciences, energy and restaurants. He was one of the main visionaries behind the innovative, high-profile Lake Nona community, a master-planned development that includes thousands of homes, UCF’s College of Medicine and Nemours Children’s Hospital. Thakkar also serves on the Florida Council of 100.

“These outstanding business leaders will bring their unique perspectives to the Tampa Electric Co. board, to help guide Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas to a future of cleaner, sustainable energy and service for our customers and communities,” said Scott Balfour, chairman of the board. “We are delighted they are joining us.”

Tampa Electric, one of Florida’s largest investor-owned electric utilities, serves about 750,000 customers in West Central Florida. Peoples Gas System, Florida’s largest natural gas distribution utility, serves about 375,000 customers across Florida. Tampa Electric Co. is the largest subsidiary of Emera Inc., a geographically diverse energy and services company headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
