Call Before You Dig

Are you are planning to install a pool or begin other construction on your property? If so, remember that Florida law states excavators MUST call to get underground utility lines marked at a dig site prior to digging.

To determine the location of Peoples Gas and other utility service lines in Florida, call Sunshine State One toll-free at 1-800-432-4770. Check with your contractor prior to excavation because, as a homeowner, YOU may be responsible for making that call.

Customer Owned Buried Piping

Federal regulations require that natural gas suppliers notify customers who own buried piping of the following:

  1. The gas supplier does not own or maintain the customer’s buried piping.
  2. Buried piping that is not maintained may be subject to corrosion and/or leakage.

Most customer-owned piping is designed, permitted, installed and inspected in accordance with local building codes. Florida’s soil conditions corrode metallic piping and over time could result in leakage. The best way to avoid this potential hazard is to periodically inspect underground piping and repair any unsafe conditions.

Contact a local licensed service provider to perform this inspection. If you need a list of providers to choose from, call 1-877 TECO PGS (option 4) or check online from this list of providers.
