Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas encourage customers to help neighbors in need
Expanded bill assistance program now includes aid for natural gas customers and a company match
TAMPA, December 26, 2012
There is still time for Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas customers to help their neighbors in need – and take a tax deduction for 2012.
It is the perfect time to help members of the community who are facing financial difficulties. And Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas have made it even easier by recently expanding the Share bill payment assistance program. Share, a program co-sponsored by the utilities and the Salvation Army, allows our customers to help pay the electric or natural gas bills of those in need.
“This newly expanded program will help our neighbors who need it most,” said Bruce Narzissenfeld, vice president of Customer Service. “When folks face the difficult decision of paying utilities over other necessities, the Share program will help them do both.”
Since 1983, Tampa Electric customers have been able to help their neighbors in need pay their electric bills through Share. More than 600 of the program’s original participants still contribute today.
This month, Share was expanded to include Peoples Gas customers. The company seeded the Share fund with $25,000 to help customers pay their natural gas bills this year. Additionally, Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas will match donations dollar-for-dollar, up to a combined $500,000 a year.
Customers can donate online at tampaelectric.com/share and peoplesgas.com/share . Donations are tax deductible. Every dollar contributed goes directly to helping a neighbor in need – no portion is used for fundraising or administrative costs.
Donations are collected by Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas and forwarded to the Salvation Army to help eligible clients. To determine if you qualify to receive assistance as a Share recipient, call (813) 226-0055.
